Cremation in Serbia

There are currently two crematoria in Serbia: in Belgrade and Novi Sad. The number of cremations there is about 20% among all deaths. Citizens of Montenegro, where not a single crematorium operates, very often use crematoria in the country.

The crematoria existing in the country offer the deceased person's family a range of services that will enable a dignified and respectful final farewell.

Formal requirements for cremation in Serbia

To have a deceased person's body cremated, a complete set of documents must be submitted:

Declaration of will of the deceased or their relatives regarding the desire for cremation;
Application for cremation;
Proof of relationship between the applicant and the deceased;
Extract from the death register on the international form
Death certificate
Identity card of the deceased or passport
Identity card or passport of the funeral entrepreneur and the person organizing the funeral

Cremation procedure in Serbia

Cremation of persons who did not die a natural death can only be carried out with the consent of the body responsible for initiating or conducting court proceedings.

Ashes can be scattered in the Garden of Memory

The cremation process takes an average of 1.5 - 2 hours. The time depends on the weight of the deceased and the material the coffin is made of (wooden, ecological).
