Cremation in Croatia

Since 1985, one crematorium has been operating in Croatia at the Mirogoj cemetery in Zagreb, and the number of cremation ceremonies is growing very quickly, mainly due to lower costs of organizing ceremonies and caring for the grave in which the urn is located.

Croatian law does not allow free disposal of urns with ashes, which means that the urn must be buried in a grave or scattered in the Rose Garden at Sunčana staza (sunny path). To scatter ashes elsewhere, it is necessary to obtain special permission.
